Civ V is polished having been actively developed for so many years, but it has always felt a little sterile to me compared to other games in the Civ franchise. Which one would I recommend? A lot of people are saying Civ V, but I don't entirely agree. You can also build up an army and go to war, but it's really not a war game, either, because there are peaceful routes to victory. There is an aspect of city management, but it's not a city management game. You start with a single settler and one military unit and grow your empire from there. It should really be called a 4E game, but I guess 4X looks cooler? I don't know.Īnyway, Civilization is a turn-based gaming series, and you can take as much time on a turn as you like, so it allows for more thoughtful and laidback play than a real-time game.
